September is a welcome month in my book! The (idea) of the Fall to come, football, new routines, back-to-school is underway, plans for the holidays ahead, and cooler weather towards the end of the month! The end of August proved to be as hectic per usual in the Southern Region and Hurricane Harvey did as expected, spreading devastation throughout. Some are thankful it wasn’t as bad HERE as it could have been, we found some reprieve as our state has felt the wrath of previous hurricanes. However, as mentioned in our donation class last night for the Campti Field of Dreams, a class that was held to build a water well for the Sustainable Agriculture Demonstration Farm, to one of the most impoverished areas in the U.S. – Campti, our neighbor! We found ourselves in such a quandary – we were holding a class to bring water to those that are hungry; whereas, to our West our neighboring state has found many of it’s people left hungry due to too much water….something to chew on. I don’t have the answers to it; there isn’t ONE. But, what I have heard/seen/believe of the stories coming from Donna Isaacs at the Campti Field of Dreams, and the woman that broke out praise songs in a shelter that brought much needed smiles & warmth, the Cajun Navy saving multiple lives including the furry variety, and Waylon at the Campti Farm that hauls 5 gallon buckets daily, the medical personnel locally leaving family behind to travel to Texas, the man that walked 12 miles in darkness with no phone, supplies, etc to find his dad, the woman that perished giving up her life to save her toddler in the floods….these are stories of SPIRIT. I believe there is one common thread that weaves us ALL together; we have forgotten all the things that mattered last week. What someone said, did, used, bought, believed, praised, offended, littered have been set aside…our eyes and hearts are focused on one unified idea. HOPE. There is hope that we can feed more people, save another life, clothe our neighbor, rebuild others homes & lives; help one another in times of need. As we built our Tree bridge in last night’s class we reminded each other with a little support from one another, we lifted each other up, turned our faces to the sky and and found the support needed to stand on one leg. Support each other, lift each other up and move forward.
